NYPD Patrol Cars Go Green!

The Inhabitat is always finding new ways to promote a green lifestyle that is maintainable for it's readers. Recently, The Inhabitat reports on New York City's newest effort to promote a greener city. On February 24, 2009, The New York City Police Department reportedly plans to purchase 40 2009 Nissan Altima Hybrids which shall be used during police patrols. These hybrids shall run on 35 miles per gallon. Compared to NYPD'S older model The Dodge Charger, this switch to a more fuel and energy efficient car will be more beneficial to the environment and health of New York City.
New York City plans to invest in a total of 1.1 million dollars for this switch to a more energy efficient vehicle. The department plans to purchase 18 of these vehicles for patrol usage. These cars shall have a top speed of 113 mph which is better when compared to the 165 mph speed of the Dodge Charger. Not to mention the fact these cars will be more technologically advanced due to the fact that each of these cars shall obtain a pre built-in-laptop for their usage. So the next time your in the Big Apple, you might see one of these cars patrolling the streets.
